Heel Spurs
Heel spur is also known as plantar fasciitis. There are bands of tissue that run across the bottom of your feet from the heel to the forefoot. These bands are called the plantar fascia and can pull on the heel bone causing a spur. The pain associated with heel spur or plantar fasciitis is not due to the bone spur on the heel but rather to the inflammatory process caused from the bands of tissue pulling on the heel bone. Some of the causes of heel pain include poor arch support, weight gain and a sudden increase in activity. Treatment for heel spur or plantar fasciitis may include heel cushions, heel cups, arch supports, ice and stretching exercises. Also, Plantar Fasciitis Night Splints are very effective devices that are generally worn while sleeping to alleviate heel pain due to plantar fasciitis.
