Dry, Cracked Heels
Dry skin is a common problem. Your skin needs moisture to stay smooth and supple. In the winter, skin becomes even more dry. Severely dry skin may even start to crack. On the foot, the heels, the balls of the foot and the bunion area are typically the most common areas that develop dry skin. There are many foot care products available to treat dry skin. Creams, ointments and lotions when applied regularly, some twice a day, can eliminate dry skin. For dry, flaking or callused skin, try using a foot file or pumice stone. Also foot soaks and foot spas are good ways to remove flaking, dry skin but the feet should be moisturized with a cream, lotion or ointment afterward. For severely dry skin and cracked heels, Dr. Todds carries moisturizing booties, gel heel sleeves, foot & heel balm and ointments.
