Achilles Tendonitis
Achilles tendonitis is a painful inflammation of the Achilles tendon commonly caused by overuse. The Achilles tendon is the largest and strongest tendon in the body. It is located in the back of the lower leg, attaches to the heel bone and connects the leg muscles to the foot. Some treatments for Achilles tendonitis include ice, compression therapy, heel pads to reduce the stress on the tendon and strengthening exercises. Consulting a physician for treatment as soon as possible is important because this injury can lead to an Achilles tendon rupture with continued overuse.
